Let's Explore Finishing Touches That Bring Your Bathroom To Life

With our expert guidance, we help you choose the best materials, fixtures and finishes to match your exact style, needs and budget. We’ve left no stone un-turned doing vendor research over the many years in the bathroom remodeling business and our vendors are the Best! Here are the things you will need for todays bath renovations.

Countertops

Granite, Quartz and engineered stone are the top choices for most people today. Granite and quartz do require maintenance where engineered stone is practically maintenance free. These are all fantastic choices and look great in other areas of the bathroom as well, such as window sills, tub decks, shower benches, niche sills, pony wall tops, and shower curbs.

Tile

Tile is the choice for most people because of the many options. Porcelain tile is a good choice when durability is a factor, and it comes in many of different colors. Natural stones like travertine, slate, and marble are a great choice but there will be yearly maintenance. Large format porcelain wall’s with zero grout are an option to but can get pricey.

Lighting & Ventilation

Lighting is a very important part of any renovation, such as the placement and types of lighting used. Wall-mounted or sconce lights are a great choice for the vanity and recessed lighting is a great option for the main room or over a tub or shower. Proper ventilation is important in any bathroom and should be picked according to the size of your room.

Plumbing

Delta has been our go to choice for many years because of there great warranty and fantastic customer service, although there are many other’s like KohlerMoen and Price Pfister, we recommend Delta. Fixtures are a very important part of any bathroom remodel and should be thoughtfully considered. Ferguson Home is a great place to view and purchase all these items above.

Glass

3/8″ or 1/2″ frameless glass comes in 1st for most when it comes to shower enclosures. You also have a several finish choices like rain, fluted and frosted glass to name a few. Low iron or Star Fire is a great option for ultra clear glass which doesn’t have that slight green tint that your standard glass does. A more budget friendly option would be framed or semi frameless glass.

Mirrors

Mirrors can be as simple as just a flat polished mirror (cheapest) or a framed mirror that matches the cabinets. Lighted mirrors are a great choice and often come with an anti fog option, but they do cost more than traditional-style mirrors. If money is no concern, you can even get a bathroom mirror with a TV.

Towel bars

The plumbing manufacturers have made it pretty easy when it comes to towel bars because almost all of them make towel bars to match their fixture trims. You will also want to think about towel ring’s for the vanity area and a toilet paper holder for the water closet.

Paint color

With all the great new lines of latex paints, there is no need to use oil-based paints anymore. You can also get cleanable flat paints that look great and give you more options than just your everyday semi-gloss, which most contractors use. Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams and Behr are some of the most popular brands and are great for bathroom applications.

Navigating Your Bathroom Renovation: The Details

Be informed before you take the bathroom remodeling plunge. With our guiding help, you will go from plan to perfection knowing every step along the way. The details outlined below answer many questions and summarize our bathroom remodel and construction timelines.

Once the initial planning is complete, the design phase begins. This is where the vision for your bathroom remodel starts to take shape. During this phase, we'll work closely with you to finalize every detail.

  • Layout: Optimize the bathroom’s layout for better functionality and flow.
  • Floors & Walls: Flooring, wall tile, Porcelain or ceramic. There are also options for solid surface but tend to be a bit pricey.
  • Countertops: Quartz, granite or engineered stone for a sleek and durable long-lasting finish.
  • Shower and Tub Options: Walk-in showers, frameless glass, soaking tubs, free standing tubs  enclosures.
  • Fixtures: faucets, sinks, lighting, shower system, tub filler, grab bars and towel bars.

Before any demolition or construction starts, there are necessary preparations and logistics to address:

  • Protect & disconnect: On the 1st day we protect everything necessary to facilitate the project. We then disconnect all the plumbing and electrical fixtures as needed.
  • Building Materials: On the 1st & 2nd day we will be getting all the building materials on site.
  • Timeline: A project schedule is created to ensure the remodel proceeds efficiently. We also keep you informed daily on job progress and scheduling.

The construction phase begins with removing old materials and fixtures to prepare the space for new installations:

  • Demo Day: Demo usually takes one day to remove the vanities, bathtubs, toilets, tile, and countertops. This can be a noisy process.
  • Construction Debris: After the demo has been completed all the construction debris will be hauled off on day 1
  • Framing: Any framing that is needed will be done at this time.
  • Plumbing & Electrical: After the framing has been completed we move any plumbing, run any wiring needed and rough in all the fixtures as well (Rough In Phase).
  • Drywall: This is the part we call buttoning up. This is where the the drywall starts getting installed. This process can be some what time consuming depending on how much there is to do but your typical bathroom take 2 to 3 days.
  • Painting: At this point once the drywall has been completed, we paint the walls and ceilings. The rest of the painting will be completed after tile installation.
  • Cabinets: By this time cabinets are ready for install. This is usually a 1 day project. All of our custom made cabinets are finished on site and will be done shortly after install.
  • Countertops: Once the cabinets have been installed our fabricator will do all the templating needed for the bathroom. After templating, it takes about a week to cut, fabricate and install.
  • Tile: After the countertops and other stone have been installed, it's tile time! Depending on the size of the bathroom, it could take upwards of 1 week to complete. Baseboards will be installed after the flooring has been completed.

The final stage focuses on the small details that complete the look of your newly remodeled bathroom:

  • Set out: Tiling is done at this point and we start installing all the fixtures: toilets, faucets, shower plumbing trim, light fixtures and towel bars.
  • Touch Up Painting: Now it's time to touch up the paint where needed and paint any doors and trim.
  • Clean Up: We are now finished with the remodel and it's time to clean up. We start by pulling up any floor protection and plastic drops. We pack out all the tools, wipe everything down in the work area and vacuum or sweep our way out.

Before the project is officially complete, the remodeled bathroom undergoes a final inspection:

  • Quality Check: At MHM Remodeling we ensure that all the fixtures, finishes, and systems meet the highest standards.
  • Client Walkthrough: You’ll walk through the finished space to review the work and ensure that you are 100% satisfied.
