Scope of the Bathroom Remodel
This master bathroom remodel in the Lakeline Oaks subdivision of Cedar Park transformed a dated, builder-grade bathroom into a clean, modern, and highly functional space built for long-term durability. Furthermore, the project began on October 4, 2025, and was completed three weeks later, following a carefully planned process and hands-on oversight throughout.
As a family-owned and operated remodeling company with over 26 years of experience, MHM Remodeling was involved during every phase of this renovation, ensuring quality, consistency, and attention to detail from start to finish.

Before the Remodel
Before construction began, the bathroom was a builder-grade space that had seen nearly eight years of daily use. As a result, the finishes were dated and increasingly difficult to keep clean. Over time, normal wear made it clear that the materials had reached the end of their practical lifespan and could no longer be properly maintained.
We documented the existing conditions in detail before starting work so the renovation could be planned correctly and executed efficiently.

Pre Demo Checklist
Every MHM Remodeling bathroom remodel begins with a structured pre-demo checklist to ensure demolition is safe, controlled, and problem-free. In addition, this thorough approach helps prevent unexpected issues during the renovation.
- Floor protection securely installed
- Vanity sink drains and faucets disconnected
- Tub drain and faucet disconnected
- Shower drain, valve, and shower head disconnected
- Vanity light, outlets, and switch plates disconnected
- Ceiling fixtures, AC register, vent cover, and lighting removed
Demo Day
Once the plan was finalized, our team began demolition. Furthermore, we carefully removed the old shower, bathtub surround, vanity top, flooring, and wall tile. This phase sets the foundation for a clean and properly prepped workspace so the installation phase is seamless.

Bathroom Framing and Rough-In
This phase focused on structure, plumbing preparation, and long-term durability, which is central to how we approach all of our remodeling services. Additionally, Framing was completed for the tub deck, shower niche, shower curb, and blocking for frameless glass.
- Framing completed for the tub deck, shower niche, shower curb, and blocking for frameless glass
- Shower valve installed prior to pan preparation
- Traditional mud shower pan built using a pre-slope, liner, and mud set
- GoBoard installed on all shower walls
- All seams floated with thinset mortar
- Entire shower waterproofed using Laticrete Hydro Ban, applied in a minimum of two coats to achieve proper thickness

Navigating an Unexpected Challenge
About a week into the remodel, we discovered a hidden issue. While addressing drywall downstairs, we noticed a small leak that led us to uncover rotted subflooring around the toilet flange. The damage was completely hidden and not visible before demolition.
To prevent future structural and moisture problems, our team:
- Replaced the damaged subfloor
- Installed proper blocking
- Repaired and secured the toilet flange
This work was completed over the weekend, allowing the project to stay on schedule while preventing long-term issues.

Engineered Stone Installation
Next, we fabricated and installed engineered stone (Mia Gold) for the vanity countertops, tub deck, shower curb, and niche sill. As a result, this material tied together the tile, fixtures, and paint selections, creating a cohesive and elevated finish.
Accurate measurements and professional fabrication ensured a precise fit throughout the space.

Tile Installation
With the bathroom fully prepared, we installed new porcelain wall and floor tile. Additionally, proper substrate preparation and carefully aligned layouts ensure the tile installation remains durable, watertight, and visually clean for years to come.

Frameless Shower Glass Installation
After all tile work had cured, we installed a custom frameless shower glass enclosure using 3/8-inch glass. Moreover, the glass visually opens the space and provides a clean, modern finish that complements the rest of the bathroom.

After the Remodel
Tub & Shower Area
The shower and tub area were fully upgraded to improve both function and appearance. A drop-in tub was installed into an engineered stone deck with a tiled apron in front, creating a clean and durable focal point. The shower was expanded and finished with tile extending to the ceiling, includes a convenient built-in niche for storage, and is enclosed with custom 3/8-inch frameless glass, giving the space a more open and modern feel.

Vanity Area
The vanity area was updated to move away from a builder-grade look while retaining the existing vanity cabinetry. New engineered stone countertops were installed along with modern faucets and sinks, and the original single mirror was replaced with two individual mirrors. An additional vanity light fixture was added, improving both function and symmetry while giving the space a more updated, contemporary appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a master bathroom remodel take in Cedar Park?
Most master bathroom remodels take 3–6 weeks, depending on scope. This project was completed in three weeks thanks to careful planning and efficient execution.
Why do builder-grade bathrooms wear out faster?
Builder-grade materials are often selected for cost efficiency rather than long-term durability. After several years of daily use, finishes can become difficult or impossible to keep clean.
What causes hidden subfloor damage in bathrooms?
Slow leaks around toilets, showers, or tubs can go unnoticed for years. These issues are often only discovered during demolition, which is why experience and proper inspection matter.
Do bathroom remodels in Texas require permits?
Permits may be required when plumbing locations or structural components are altered. In this project, no plumbing locations were changed, and permits were not required.
Do you offer warranties on bathroom remodels?
Yes. All MHM Remodeling projects are backed by a 3-year workmanship warranty.
